About
Purpose
We’re biased: we encourage abundance for everyone not just for the few or at the expense of the planet. We see the Earth as an abundant, yet finite, living organism that we may encourage to feed and shelter us all. We offer a guide, albeit incomplete, to Do It Yourself or buy it off the shelf, or gift to a neighbor or friend–if that’s not your talent. Our assumption is that everyone’s Utopia is different. We embrace the art of economics not just its logic; some of us will pedal, or wheel chair, hoof through it on bare or cyber powered implanted feet; but cobble your Utopia together how you will. Find the solutions appropriate to right where you are sitting now.
We are a compass for the map to your desires. The map isn’t the territory however–experiences will vary. Our goal is to leverage animal, plant, and dirt intelligence against scarcity and poverty to create abundance. This is the Rough Guide to Abundance: the trip begins with a kiss.
About our categories
Influenced by Thoreau in Walden:
“By the words, necessary of life, I mean whatever, of all that man obtains by his own exertions, has been from the first, or from long use has become, so important to human life that few, if any, whether from savageness, or poverty, or philosophy, ever attempt to do without it. To many creatures there is in this sense but one necessary of life, Food. To the bison of the prairie it is a few inches of palatable grass, with water to drink; unless he seeks the Shelter of the forest or the mountain’s shadow. None of the brute creation requires more than Food and Shelter. The necessaries of life for man in this climate may, accurately enough, be distributed under the several heads of Food, Shelter, Clothing, and Fuel; for not till we have secured these are we prepared to entertain the true problems of life with freedom and a prospect of success.”
